In a new recurring feature, I’ll be profiling local DJs of all tribes. Radio jocks, performing club vets, technical wizards on decks or the digital drops. Since the role of being a music selector began long ago on the Triangle’s airwaves and DJ booths, it’s appropriate to start out with a devoted local radio fixture, Marty Smith, who finished his last scheduled show on WXDU April 25th. He had been on the air doing community-oriented radio consistently for 23 years.
