Former WXYC music director Glenn Boothe, who returned to Chapel Hill after more than a decade working for Caroline, Sony, Island and Epic, signed the papers this week to buy Local 506.

Boothe, who got into the candy distribution business upon his return to the state in 2001, says he doesn’t expect to make a lot of changes right away.

He says he’ll continue to focus on local music–for the first month he’s booked in almost exclusively local acts–as well as expand the types of acts at the club.

“I’d like to see it become a real hub for the music community,” Boothe says.

As music director at WXYC from 1988-90, Boothe started the local music show Backyard Barbecue.
