Kentrell Barkley is more than the 17-year-old high school kid who recently got punched by the Charlotte Hornets’ PJ Hairston during a pickup basketball game at the Durham YMCA.
Barkley is featured in this documentary about Mr. Rick’s Ballerz, a basketball team that helps inspire and challenge young men from difficult backgrounds.
“All my other brothers are gang members,” Barkley says. “I think I was determined to be something in life.”
Kelly Creedon and Mary Stevens created this documentary as part of Faultlines, a multimedia reporting project of the UNC School of Journalism and Mass Communication.
