NY Times‘ columnist Thomas Friedman will speak at Duke Sept. 22 at Page Auditiorium, according to a university press release. The event is free, but tickets are required: Order online at www.tickets.duke.edu or by phone 684-4444.

The topic of his speech is ‘Hot, Flat, and Crowded: Why We Need a Green Revolution and How It Can Renew America” which, coincidentally, is the title of his new book.

‘How do our kids compete in a flatter world? How do they thrive in a warmer world? How do they survive in a more dangerous world? Those are, in a nutshell, the big questions facing America at the dawn of the 21st century,” Friedman says. ‘I have an idea how. It’s called ‘green.’ ”

Friedman is the author of The Lexus and the Olive Tree: Understanding Globalization and The World Is Flat: A Brief History of the 21st Century.
