Hillside High School band members, football players and students celebrated homecoming in mid-October, beating Jordan High 53-0. Later that week, thousands lined the streets for the homecoming parade, grasping for candy tossed from floats, riders on horseback and masked motorcyclists and the homecoming king and queen. Little princesses, Transformers and skeletons with bags full of sweets scampered around Durham’s Southside Community Center on Halloween. A reveler dressed as Spider-Man climbed the corner store at South and Enterprise streets. He pumped his fists into the evening blue, immortalized into Instagram history as revelers snapped photos with their smartphones.
