Thank you for the tribute to U.S. Sen. Jesse Helms (Peripheral Visions, by V.C. Rogers, July 9). Helms would have appreciated the lowering of the Confederate flag during his passing. He was truly a man who served his state and nation, and believed in states’ rights and limited government as represented by the Confederate flag.

That cartoon was truly fitting for a man who fought and lived for his state and the South.
