Hollerin’ is the oldest form of communication and should not be confused with hog calling. In this audio clip recorded at the 2007 National Hollerin’ Contest, you will hear, in order, Jim Grastie with a rendition of “Lion Sleeps Tonight,” Men’s division champion Kevin Jasper and his version of “Shortnin’ Bread,” a NASCAR news poll, Jim Grastie (again) doing the “wake up” and “siren” hollers, Women’s division champion Shelia Frye just plain hollerin’, and Jim “Mater Man” Ray performing his “Hokie Call” in honor of those killed at Virginia Tech. Production & recordings by Derek Anderson with assistance from Chase Foster. |
