Public schools across the Triangle are either closed or remote again today due to this weekend’s snow storm.

But for many kids—and families—the “quintessential snow day” is no more, Sara Heise Graybeal writes for The Assembly. 

Interviewing experts and district staff across the state, Graybeal found that school closures have held steady even as snowy days have gotten more rare.

“Instead of snow, cold and rain; instead of movies, remote learning; instead of hot cocoa, parents glued to laptops, still attempting to do their jobs,” she writes.

So how exactly do districts decide when to close for winter weather? And how do those decisions affect kids, families and district staff? Read more below.
