Good morning, readers.

Neighbors and patrons of the soon-to-be-relocated Athens Drive Community Library in southwest Raleigh have been advocating for more than a year for its replacement to remain nearby. Yesterday, they got some good news: Wake County commissioners seem inclined to grant their wish.

From a handful of options, the board favors moving the community library just down the street to the current site of the Well Fed Community Garden, owned by retired restaurateurs Arthur and Anya Gordon. The commissioners passed on a proposal to relocate the library to Cary, nearly three miles away.

Community advocates have had to fight to save the library from closure no less than three times in the past two decades, as INDYโ€™s Jane Porter previously reported. Then, they fought to keep its replacement local. But theyโ€™re not quite at the finish line yet, and wonโ€™t be until the purchase agreement is finalized.

Read more about what the new library could look like and how much the property could cost Wake County below. And have a good Tuesday.
