A Legacy of Theatre in Chapel Hill
For nearly 50 years, PlayMakers has produced professional theatre on the campus of the University of North Carolina–Chapel Hill. Founded in 1975, it builds upon a legacy of theatremaking dating back over 100 years with the Carolina Playmakers, a university-led acting troupe. Inspired by the regional theatre movement at the time, the troupe envisioned a transformative combination of professional artistic achievement and UNC’s high-quality theatrical training. Today, the resident company remains at the heart of PlayMakers, made up by accomplished performers, directors, designers, artisans, and technicians, and supported by graduate students in UNC’s Professional Actor Training and Technical Production programs. The company works alongside guest artists from around the world, including Pulitzer, Tony, Emmy, and Grammy winners. Is it a university or professional theatre? The answer is both!
Get Closer to the Action
The unique Paul Green Theatre is a 550-seat venue with just eight rows of seating on three sides of the stage, putting you right in the middle of the action. There isn’t a bad seat in the house!

Affordability and Flexibility
Tickets are on sale now starting at just $20, making Broadway-quality theatre more accessible to audiences across the Triangle. Close, convenient parking options are never more than $1.
